"The Journey" (continued)

During this part of the journey I also continued my painting (tole & decorative) and was joined in the journey by a wonderful group of women who go by the name of “The Lucy’s” (picture here Lucille Ball and Ethel Mertz in the “grape stomping scenes”, the “vitamita vegamin routine” or the “chocolate candy factory skit” and you get a pretty good idea of how we came up with this name).

For several years, in the back of my mind, I played around with the dream of having my own small business and tinkered with ideas of how I could possibly turn that dream into a “retirement career”. In late 2005 I wandered in to a bead store in Suffolk by the name of Beadworkz and was mesmerized by the goodies I found there. Always loving unique jewelry and the use of bright colors I was addicted from the beginning of my first class. The ideas for that retirement career began to focus around beads and color.

In 2006 after a change in my employer, I accelerated those “retirement career” plans and changed the path of my journey. With the encouragement of my husband John, the Lucy’s and Connie Hanna I struck out on my own and “Whistler Works Studio” was created. Around the same time these events were taking place, John had been developing (pun intended) his own talents photographing the flowers in our garden and his orchid collection and an additional element was added to Whistler Works Studio.

Whether it’s lampwork beads, polymer clay, pure metal clay or semiprecious stones, I will try them all to develop a style that becomes my own.. Also, John’s outstanding botanical photographs are sure to be a hit. I hope you will join us for this part of our journey and hang on for a fun ride!     P.S. The Lucy’s will be in the party car!
