"The Journey"
For those of you who couldn’t care less, please go on to enjoy the pictures of our handicrafts on other pages of our website. The rest of you can read on.
Several months ago a good friend sent me one of those e-mail “stories” (you know the kind - jokes & stories we receive several times a day). This short story compared life to a train ride. It stayed with me and I will use my version of that story to tell you about Whistler Works Studio.
In the early 90’s at home in New Orleans, with several years behind me traveling along a path of a career in healthcare, I was joined in my journey by a certain young man named John. John and I decided to continue our own travels into the future together. While we traveled together we each pursued our own interests and activities. For me that included developing my painting skills (which I had dabbled in for a brief time in the past). For John, that included sports, gardening and a growing (no pun intended) collection of orchids.
Along the way we had several other passengers join us to share parts of this journey. One such person is a woman by the name of Connie Hanna (of the Connie Hanna Jewels). I began a collection of Connie’s creations which included gorgeous crystal, semiprecious stones and unusual glass beads. Connie’s eye for color reflected in her jewels mirrored my own tastes and my collection grew.
